Do you think we can help?

What happens next?

Once we have had a chat over the phone, we will arrange an appointment for Katie to meet you and your relative for an informal chat. We will get to know each other a little bit and find out if we feel comfortable with each other. We will then discuss how often and for how long visits would be and if you decide you would like to proceed we can organise the first visit.

Frequently asked questions

Where do visits take place?

Usually in the home of the older person (client), however we can also visit in nursing homes and hospitals.

What happens during a visit?

We will endeavour to find out the interests of the client and steer conversation and activity around them. Some people just want to chat over a cuppa, some like to do something creative or mentally challenging. Others might like to look through old photos or walk round the garden. Every person is different.

How frequently do visits take place?

Many people wish to have a regular visit each week, however some people just want someone to visit on an ad hoc basis. Either way is fine, although priority will be given to those booking a regular visit.

Is it always the same visitor?

At the moment Welcome Visitor has Katie performing all the visits. So yes, it will always be the same person.

How do I pay?

For regular visits it would be appreciated if payment could be made directly into our bank account. For less frequent visits cash on the day of the visit is acceptable.

What if my Welcome Visitor cancels a visit?

We will always do our best to be reliable and punctual, however in rare and exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to rearrange or cancel a visit. As much notice will be given as possible and contact will be made with both the client and their contactable relative. We will endeavour to rearrange the visit as soon as is convenient. Please note, we take regular Lateral Flow Tests. If we receive a positive test for ourselves, or someone within our household, we will cancel the visit.

What if I have to cancel a visit?

If we have more than 48 hours notice, Welcome Visitor will try to rearrange the appointment for you at no additional cost. If that is not possible the following charges apply:

More than 48 hours notice from the appointed visit time: No Charge

48 hours or less notice, but in advance of us leaving for appointment: Charge for the first hour only.

On arrival at the appointment (i.e. no advanced notice): Full booked appointment to be charged.

How will I know what has happened on the visit?

Hopefully your loved one will let you know how much they have enjoyed their Welcome Visitor and, if the visit is to give you a break we will see you on your return. If we don't see you, we can send you a text message or email to keep you up to date. We will also get in touch if we find anything that worries us about your loved one for example a change in behaviour, signs of illness or not managing in any way.

Does Welcome Visitor have a policy on gifts?

We do not encourage gifts from the people we visit, however we realise that occasionally older people like to show their appreciation in some small way. If this is the case we will always contact you to ensure you are comfortable with this.

Does Welcome Visitor offer personal care or cleaning services?

Sorry, we are not able to offer these services.

If my relative needs to be taken to a medical appointment, how would that work?

We are able to accompany clients to medical appointments with advanced notice. We would need to know the time and location of the appointment as well as any other useful information such as parking availability etc.

Charges for taking clients away from their home may be slightly different for example: parking charges. Please contact us for more details.

My relative does not need a visit at home, they need assistance to get out and about more, can Welcome Visitor help?

Yes, we would be happy to accompany your relative to social engagements, to the shops, the library or just to go out for a cup of tea! Some older people lose the confidence to go out and about on their own. We are happy to go with them to provide the reassurance that they need.
